Whether evaluating for DVT or superficial venous reflux in evaluation for varicose veins, a specialized Venous Doppler Ultrasound is the most crucial test to identify the pathology as well as the tool from which a unique treatment plan can be formulated for you.
Venous Doppler testing uses ultrasound technology to see inside the veins and assess blood flow. The procedure is noninvasive and painless and usually only takes about 30-40 minutes to complete. It should be noted that a careful, thorough venous Doppler study for varicose veins/superficial reflux will be a study that is done with the patient standing upright and different physiologic moves and squeezing of the legs by the sonographer. Often patients seen in the vein clinic will say they have had a Doppler study done elsewhere prior to this, however, very few centers perform the appropriate study to assess superficial reflux for people with vein disease.
At our South Palm Cardiovascular Associates vein clinic, we employ the latest advances and leading-edge technology to effectively detect and diagnose a variety of vein conditions. Our vascular specialists are highly experienced at using venous Doppler testing. Your doctor will fully discuss the results of your test with you, and recommend the best vein treatment or follow-up care as needed.
